The 2019-2020 season ended in disappointing fashion for the Fergus Falls boys’ basketball team.  Their year was certainly a success with a 25-4 overall record and a 14-2 Central Lakes Conference mark which led to a conference title, however, having the season end prior to an opportunity to play Perham for a Section 8AA title was a bitter pill to swallow.

Losing Parker Jacobs, Brock Kotschevar, Ethan Olson and Cody Norgren to graduation will certainly hurt, but the Otters have a solid nucleus of players with varsity experience returning.

“We are incredibly thankful and happy to finally be on the court together and look forward to a fun and challenging season,” said Head Coach Matt Johnson, now in his sixth year leading the Otters.  “We have a couple of dynamic and experienced college-bound players in Dominic Aguilar (Point Guard, U-Mary) and Chance Fazio (Post, MSU-M) that provide a great inside-out threat.  Coupled with returning contributors Abel Aho (SR, G), Luke Newman (JR, Wing) and Elliot Pribbenow (JR, Guard), we have a versatile team who can score and defend in a variety of ways.  There is plenty of opportunity for other players to step in and help, and we are excited to see which players embrace those roles and help the team.”

Seniors Austin Rinke, Jack Vogl, Bryce Burrill and Dallas Barry, juniors Kaden Conklin and Owen Hanson, and sophomores Josh Sternberg and Jaydon Manteufel will be battling for varsity playing time.

Johnson will be assisted by Dan Sternberg, Keith Pearson, Ryan Johnson, Josh Grove and Randy Johnson.

“The CLC will be deep and loaded, but I expect Alexandria to be the team to beat,” said Coach Johnson.
