Frazee Wrestling (Season Preview)

The Frazee Hornets were 14-9 a year ago and sent four wrestlers to the State Tournament, two of whom return for the 2020-2021 season.  Section runners-up Christian Carlson (SR) and Kaden Hiemenz (SR) are back, along with Bailey Peichel (8th Grade) who finished fourth in Section 8A in his weight class.

“We will have a young squad, but they bring quality experience and will look to continue to improve,” stated second year Head Coach Travis Nagel.  “They have an extreme desire to achieve success.  We have quality leaders in Brock Barlund (SR), Howard Solem (SR), Christian Carlson and Kaden Hiemenz.”

Junior Byron Krpuenske, sophomores Danny Graham and Jake Nagel, freshmen Preston Mayfield, Tyler Moe, Derek Zitzow and Xander Kohler, and eighth-graders Cade Nagel, Mason Wilkowski and Bailey Peichel are other returning letter winners.

Nagel will be assisted by Clay Nagel, Marty Aho and Steve WilkowskiMike Hamm, Brady Brietenfelt and Dennis Schermerhorn will work with the junior high wrestlers.

Nagel says Perham will be the favorite in the Heart O’ Lakes Conference, while Badger-Greenbush-Middle River is his choice as the top team in Section 8A.

Frazee lost state qualifiers Lukas Volstad and Seth Isola to graduation, along with Luke Tweeton (Air National Guard/University of Mary), Brett Graham (MSUM), Wesley Kropuenske, Caleb Degroat and Mason Newling.
