Hawley senior Maria Vetter has been a member of the volleyball team and track and field team for the Nuggets since seventh grade.  She also played basketball through tenth grade and is active in MHS, FCA, Knowledge Bowl and her Church choir.

“As a senior Maria led the team not only on the floor by her stats, but off the floor with her silent and graceful leadership,” said Head Volleyball Coach Kathleen Rustad.  “She treats others on her team with respect.  The words cool, calm, collected and compassionate would best describe her.  She does not get rattled on the floor during the most competitive games and is a very natural athlete.  She tried out for Cross Country this year due to the uncertainty of volleyball.  She is a very well-rounded individual.  Our program will be sad to see her leave.”

Vetter’s favorite quote is, “If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you.”

“Sports have taught me how to have mental toughness and that has helped me in other areas of my life besides sports,” said Vetter.  “My fondest sports memory is when my 4 x 4 relay team placed at state.”

Vetter, who lists Biology and Anatomy as her favorite high school subjects, plans to attend U-Mary in Bismarck to major in Nursing.  She will compete for their track and field team as a Heptathlete.
