Zach Traphagen begins his second year as Head Girls Basketball Coach at Brandon-Evansville with a storehouse of talent returning from the Chargers 15-11 season a year ago.  B-E finished second in the Little Eight Conference with a 9-3 record and went 5-4 in the Pheasant Conference.

Losing Team MVP and All-Conference player Kristen Kokett, along with Hardest Worker Award winner Haddey Zastrow, Maddie Otto, Brittany Korkowski, Kailee Klimek and Caitlyn Deschene will certainly be felt, but the loss of those players will be softened by the fact that starters Mikenna Pattrin (SR, Center) and Bailey Schaefer (SR, Guard/Forward), both All-Conference players in the Little 8 and Pheasant, lead a strong group of returning players.  Letter Winners Korrie Randt (SR, Forward), Olivia Otto (JR, Guard), Kaytlyn Pattrin (JR, Guard), Kiley Lund (JR, Center), Sydney Schaefer (SO, Guard/Forward) and EmmaLee Brethorst (SO, Forward) all bring varsity experience into the 2020-2021 season.

“We have some talented players returning, but the loss of our seniors from last year will be a big challenge but one I believe these girls are up for it,” said Traphagen.  “Our strengths will be our athleticism and ability to play multiple defenses.  Inside scoring should be a strength of ours as well.  With the loss of six seniors we find ourselves fairly inexperienced for varsity level point guard play so need to play that position by committee until a leader emerges.”

Sophomores Grace Otto (Guard), Emma Haugen (Guard) and Taylin Kramer (Guard), and freshman Kylee Dingwall (Guard) will all be competing for varsity playing time.

“If we can improve our team field goal percentage, team free throw percentage and lower our turnovers I believe we can have a great chance to compete at a high level,” noted Traphagen.  “We need to clean those areas up, while also playing solid team basketball offensively and playing with relentless effort defensively.”

Traphagen will be assisted by Mike Traphagen (Varsity Assistant), Jordyn Bossert (B Squad), Kami Dingwall (C Squad), Pam Schjei (Junior High) and Heidi Elmer (Junior High).

Coach Traphagen says Parkers Prairie, Underwood, West Central Area, Hancock, Henning and C-G-B will all be highly competitive in Section 6A.
