Bill Gottenborg has been coaching high school girls’ basketball for 35 years.  His coaching career has featured several outstanding teams and numerous seasons of tremendous success.  Last year was another of those success stories as his Hawley Nuggets finished 22-6 and were runners-up in the always tough Heart O’ Lakes Conference with a 10-2 record.  They also picked up a pair of post season wins.  With five returning seniors and four returning starters, Gottenborg has his team poised for another impressive season.

“We have excellent experience and a lot of depth returning,” acknowledges Gottenborg.

They will miss Paige Thompson, who graduated last spring and is now a member of the MSUM Dragons, but with seniors Abby Rux (Forward), Rudee Hockett (Center), Morgan Ames (Forward), Haley Reading (Guard) and Addi Dauner (Guard) leading the way, the Nuggets will be a force to be reckoned with on the court.

Rux is joined by junior guards Kaylie Crabtree and Kylie Crabtree, along with sophomore forward Anna Steer as returning starters for the Nuggets.  Joining Hockett, Ames, Reading and Dauner as returning letter winners are juniors Grace Fleming (Guard), Lily Peterson (Guard), Alex Eilertson (Guard), Faith Rustad (Forward), Talyn Ranstrom (Guard) and Paige Blakeway (Forward), and sophomore Marissa Ahles (Forward).  Freshman Emma Brookshire (Center) will also be competing for varsity playing time.

Ben Lofgren (JV), Chris Baxter (C), Scott Mies (7th Grade) and Tim Pederson (8th Grade) will serve as assistant coaches in the program.

Gottenborg sees Pelican Rapids as the HOL favorite, with Fergus Falls joining the Vikings as the top teams in Section 8AA.
