Scott Bartholomew is the new Head Girls Basketball Coach at Wheaton/Herman-Norcross.  Bartholomew is no stranger to coaching as he spent the past 31 years in South Dakota, including a perfect 25-0 record and a Class B State Championship at Waverly/South Shore in 2000.  Corey Spilde will serve as his assistant with the Warriors.

The Warriors lost one senior to graduation, Maycee Tolifson, but they return some very talented girls.  “Our strength will be in our height as we will have our three returning starters all going over 5’10”,” said Bartholomew.  “These three include senior Izzy Schmidt, junior Ellissa Rinke and sophomore Brylie Schultz.”

Schmitz and Georgia Gallagher will serve as team captains.

The Warriors will have several girls competing for varsity playing time as Gallagher, Macki Stafford and Ava Klindworth all started at various times last season.  In addition, Carma Sykora, Kyah Thomas, Lesley Rinke, Lydia Vipond, Sadie Vipond, Megyn Kelly, Jordyn Perry, Braylen Schmidt and Julia Schmidt all saw extended time on the junior varsity a year ago.

“We feel with our returning experience we should be able to compete with everyone on our schedule,” added Coach Bartholomew.  “There are many talented teams in this area.  Our strength should be our inside play and if we can develop our perimeter shooting and ball handling skills, we will be a tough team to beat.  We will focus on strong team defense and look forward to seeing who will contribute to this season.”

Bartholomew expects West Central Area and Hancock to be strong again this season, with C-G-B also being very competitive in the Pheasant Conference.
