The West Central Area Knights are coming off a 22-8 girls’ basketball season that saw them reach the Section 6A Finals and with the Pheasant Conference with an 11-1 mark.  In the process they set a school record for points scored in a game and saw Lexi Bright score career point number 1,000.

Team captains Kaylyn Ulrich and Teagan Nelson, and four-year starter Hailey Bennett were all lost to graduation, however, the cupboard is hardly bare for Head coach Eric Schoenbauer and his staff (Naomi Moerke, Eli Dotts, Todd Bright).

Bright, much to the dismay of opposing teams in the conference and section, is still just a junior and the two-time Conference MVP returns as a guard for the Knights.  She is joined by seniors Brynn Fernholz (Guard), Brooke Anderson (Guard/Forward) and Chloe LaRue (Guard), juniors Elizabeth Rustan (Guard/Forward/Center), Kennedy Ulrich (Forward/Center), Halle Foslien (Guard/Forward/Center) and Kaitlyn Hanson (Guard), and sophomore Claire Stark (Guard).

Junior guard Halle Grosz and freshman guard Sidney Ulrich will also be seeking varsity minutes for the Knights.

“We have a well-rounded team that can play multiple styles of the game,” said Coach Schoenbauer.  “We like to think of ourselves as aggressive and determined.”

Henning, Underwood, Parkers Prairie, Hancock and the Knights should all be in the battle for the Section 6A championship.  Hancock will present the biggest challenge to the Knights as they try to repeat as champs in the Pheasant Conference.
