The Battle Lake girls basketball team lost Makenna Tysdal, Halie Johnson and Tessa Kortlever to graduation and don’t have a senior on the roster as they enter the 2020-21 season looking to improve on their 8 win season of a year ago.

“Our playoff game against Hancock was a loss, but one of our best efforts of the season,” recalled Head Coach David Marso.  “After losing to them by 48 points a few weeks earlier, we played them to a 5-point loss on their court.  With no seniors on the team this season we will be leaning heavily on our junior class to fill the leadership roles.”

Those juniors are led by returning starters at guard, Grace VanErp and Ady Tysdal.  They will be joined by Emmie Lundquist and Maia Scholten as team captains.  Sophomores Morgan Malone (Post) and Erika Heibel (Guard) will also contribute varsity minutes.

“We will be young, but should be quicker,” noted Marso.  “Our young players will need some time to get where they need to be to play our best, but we are optimistic that they will rise to the challenge.”

Brady Cameron will serve as an assistant to Marso.

“I expect the Little Eight Conference to be very balanced with very competitive games every night,” concluded Marso.
