Geography, History and Chemistry are the favorite high school subjects for multi-sport athlete Dani Piche.  The Frazee senior plans on attending MSUM in the fall of 2021 to purse a degree in secondary education with an emphasis on those three subjects, along with life science.

She has participated in Cross Country, Volleyball, Basketball and Softball at the high school level.  She has also been involved in Student Council, National Honor Society, Band and Knowledge Bowl.

“Being in sports has taught me how to have a good work ethic and time management, let alone how to work with others through good and bad times,” said Piche.

“Dani has been playing varsity softball since she was in seventh grade,” commented Head Softball Coach Matt Bauer.  “She brings a lot of determination and hard work to the team.  Her athleticism and softball knowledge are exceptional and make her a pleasure to coach.  She has been crucial to the success of Hornet Softball and is always willing to help the team out.  She really takes a lot of pride in getting the bunt down, while also being able to drive the ball into the outfield.  In 2019 she earned awards for always sacrificing herself to advance her teammates to the next base or to allow them to score.”

Her top sports memories have occurred on the volleyball court when the Hornets beat HOL conference rivals they haven’t beaten in a number of years.  The wins occurred during the regular season and even some post season games and Piche says, “They were huge wins that helped the momentum and confidence of the team tremendously.”

“Dani has been a big part of the Varsity Hornet Volleyball team for many years,” said Head Coach Andy Paulson. “She has developed into an all-around player and will do whatever it takes to make the team better. She strives to be a leader of the team and offers as much help as possible to her teammates, especially the younger players that are still honing their skills. Dani has been willing to change her position on the team (she originally wanted to be a passer) by being a great setter and contributed to the team as a hitter as well.”

“Dani was a great addition to the Cross Country team this fall,” said Head Coach Megan Galligan. “When she wasn't sure there would be a volleyball season she came out for a sport that was completely new to her. She brought leadership and a positive attitude to every practice and meet. Dani made goals for herself and pushed every day achieving her best time at her last meet. It was amazing to watch her grow as an already talented athlete and to set a great example for all of her teammates.”

Her Basketball Coach Jason Reierson shared this thought about Dani, “She has become a very consistent shooter for our team.  She works to get better in different aspects of her game each year.  She is getting better with her ball handling and started last year getting to the free throw line more.”

Here favorite saying is, “It’s the little things in life that matter the most.  Appreciate what you have.  Be grateful.”
