When she’s not competing in Volleyball, Basketball or Softball, Pelican Rapids senior Allie Haiby enjoys being a part of FFA, Student Council, MHS, FCA and Band.  Her favorite high school classes are English and Physics.

When it comes to rating her top sports memory, it’s easy.  “Winning the 8AA Girls Basketball Championship game last March,” says Haiby.  “I will never forget the amount of pride and joy evident in the gym after Maddie Guler’s last second shot.”

“Allie is hard work, coachable and is a great teammate,” said Basketball Coach Brian Korf.  “She is a teammate who wants the best for her team.  She works hard on the court and in the classroom.”

Haiby will be attending UND in the fall of 2021 where she will major in Kinesiology as he follows the pre-occupational therapy route.

“Sports has taught me life skills of work ethic, leadership and determination,” said Haiby.  “Sports has also given me the opportunity to form lifelong friendships with my teammates that I will treasure forever.”

Volleyball Coach Heidi Isaman says, “Allie is a defensive specialist for our volleyball program who was an amazing leader for our team this year.  Allie is extremely hard working and works so hard to become a better athlete every day.  She is extremely dedicated and very coachable.  She not only pushes herself to improve every day, but does a great job motivating her teammates to get better and work hard.  Allie is just that kind of kid that is such a joy to coach and is a great teammate.”

Varsity Assistant Softball Coach Sara Davis adds, “There are so many wonderful things I could say about Allie!  She’s a quiet leader who always comes ready to play.  She has a smile that can light up the dugout in the spring and a fierce face when she heads up to battle at the plate.  She has grown so much as a player in the years I have been lucky enough to be her coach.  I am excited to see her continue to tackle whatever she puts her mind to after graduations because she has always been the kind of person that doesn’t back down from adversity.  The girl works her heart out to get better at everything she tries.”

Advice to underclassmen from Haiby is, “Even on the days when you’re tired as can be and just want it all to be over, still give it your all because you don’t know how many more practices, games, or moments with your team you’ll get.”
