Shane Wrolson was a standout football player for the West Central Area/Ashby Knights, earning All-Section 8AA honors as an offensive and defensive lineman as the Knights won their first District Championship since 2005, finishing the season with a 5-2 overall record and a 3-0 mark against District teams.

“Whenever we beat Pillager is always fun, especially beating them my freshman year to go to state, and this year to win the District title,” said Wrolson as he recalled his top sports memories.

Wrolson, who lists Carpentry and Welding as his favorite classes, will be attending the University of Montana where he will major in Welding Technology.

“Shane has been like a coach on the field the past two seasons,” commented WCA/Ashby Head Football Coach Nate Wood.  “His football IQ is very high and he knew the offense and defense inside and out. He also was a valuable asset as a motivator and keeping practices up tempo.  Shane’s intelligence paired with serious dedication in the weight room led to him being a very successful lineman for us.  Often he was under-sized but overcame that with his other attributes.  Shane is my teacher’s aide and we enjoyed many conversations about football and life this fall.  I greatly appreciated being able to bounce ideas off him and his honest feedback.”

Wrolson added, “Being involved in sports has taught me how to work as a team and communicate with others, and it has taught me to listen and help others with what they need.  My advice to underclassman is that the high school years go fast, so have fun while you can and treasure it for the rest of your life.”
