Fergus Falls High School senior Makayla Huus plans on going into Nursing school with a minor in Special Education following her graduation.  She is considering attending M State in Fergus Falls to get her generals completed before pursuing her major.

“Makayla is a player that you could always look to for positivity and 110% effort,” said Volleyball Coach Sabrina Noon.  “Her dedication and commitment to her team was not only a great example for her teammates, but for the younger players in our program as well.  When she stepped on the court, she always brought an energy full of confidence and encouragement that fueled our team and inspired our younger players.  We will definitely miss her amazing defense and smiling face next year.”

Basketball Coach Brad Strand said, “Makayla always brings a great attitude to practice and is eager to help the team in any way possible.  She is a strong leader around our school with the younger students.”

Being involved in sports has had a lasting impact on Huus, “Getting closer to my friends and being teammates for all three sports really helps to form close friendships.  It has changed me in a way of working together, the atmosphere we create in the gym every day makes you want to be there and get better as a team.  We all know our limits and how hard we can push ourselves and if we work together as a team we believe we can make it pretty far.  With COVID going around and making things different really makes it harder, but we all know we are all going through the same thing.  We have a really good group of seniors this year and I think we can be leaders together and encourage each other that we will be back and ready to go if everyone does their part.  It has also changed me in a way to appreciate the things I am able to do.  I am thankful for all of my teammates that push me harder and want me to get better.  I am also thankful for such a great coaching staff in all of my sports throughout the years.  I couldn’t have done it without you!”

“Makayla is a dedicated track athlete,” commented Fergus Falls Head Track and Field Coach Niki Welde.  “She has dedicated herself to a challenging event, Pole Vault.  Her hard work and awesome attitude have helped her to find success with it.  She is always willing to go out of her way to help the team by jumping into other events where needed.”

While in high school, Huus has participated in Volleyball, Basketball and Track and Field.  She has also been active in Wyldlife and Younglife.

“One of my top memories is beating Perham in the volleyball playoffs my junior year,” said Huus.  “That and all the memories made on the bus and in the locker room before and after games.”

Huus says Math and all the electives she has taken rank as her favorite school subjects.

Her favorite quote is a Bible verse, “Be strong and courageous.  Do not be afraid: do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” – Joshua 1:9
