The Wadena-Deer Creek girls’ basketball team is coming off a 15-13 season which saw them finish third in the Park Region Conference (9-5).  They recorded 7 more wins than the previous season and had two all-conference players in Kennedy Gravelle and Madison Carsten.  Gravelle, a 1,000 point scorer in her career is now playing volleyball at Northern State in Aberdeen, South Dakota.  WDC also lost 3-year starter Mackenzie Carsten and reserves Laura Krause and Hailey Wiederich to graduation.

Third year Head Coach Jordan Cresap says, “The seniors we lost brought a lot of scoring, rebounding and toughness to our team and it will need to be replaced in order for us to have success.  Nevada Schulz, Lauryn Gravelle, Madison Packer and Madison Carsten are experienced players who we will look to for leadership.  Our group of juniors and sophomores have played extensively together over the years and their unselfishness/team play will be one our strengths this year.  With our current circumstances it will be a crazy season, but we are just excited to get back onto the court!”

Returning starters include juniors Lauryn Gravelle (Post) and Madison Packer (Guard), and sophomore Madison Carsten (Guard).  Other returning letter winners are senior Nevada Schulz (Post) and juniors Corra Endres (Forward), Kaylin Lupkes (Guard) and Summer Pettit (Guard).

Eighth-graders Montana Carsten (Guard) and Addyson Gravelle (Guard) are newcomers to the varsity roster.

Cresap will be assisted by Wendy Gravelle (JV), Jordan Anderson (C) and Jessy VanHavermaet (Assistant).

He sees Roseau, Pelican Rapids, Fergus Falls, Perham and Hawley as the top teams in Section 8AA, while Park Region Conference favorites are Henning, Menahga, Pillager and New York Mills.
