During her years at Pelican Rapids High School Greta Tollefson has been active in many different sports and activities.  She has played basketball, softball and volleyball, been on the cross country team and also participated as part of the trapshooting team.  In Addition, Greta has been involved in FFA, Student Council, MHS, FCA and 4-H.

Anatomy, Chemistry and Calculus are her favorite high school subjects.  “Sports have brought me many lifelong friendships,” said Tollefson.  “They have taught me many life lessons, such as determination, work ethic and mental toughness.”

“Greta normally would participate in volleyball during the fall season, but with the late start of that sport due to the pandemic, she chose to run cross country instead,” reported Head Cross Country Coach Steve Maresh. “It was clear the first day of practice that Greta was super competitive and was willing to do whatever it takes to improve herself and make the team better. By season end, Greta had received the Viking Grit Award as voted by her teammates. The VGA goes to the runner on the team who is the biggest “gamer” in races and workouts. This athlete is as tough-as-nails, and will go through a wall to help the team.”

A favorite quote of Tollefson’s is “You did not come this far to walk away without a victory.”

Her advice to underclassmen is, “Never wish your time away.  It goes by fast and before you know it you will want to play one more game or go to one more class.”

“For sure, my top sports memory was last basketball season when our team went 30-1, beating Fergus Falls with Maddie Guler’s buzzer beater to with the section championship at Concordia,” said Tollefson.  “I’ll never forget the feeling as the crow stormed the court after the championship game.”

“Greta works hard in the classroom and in her extra-curricular activities,” acknowledged Head Girls Basketball Coach Brian Korf.  “She is a great leader who pushes herself and her teammates to work hard and work together.”

Greta is undecided on a college, but is hoping to play basketball at the next level.  She is planning to major in Pre-Medicine.

Greta Tollefson is an amazing leader on and off the court,” commented Head Volleyball Coach Heidi Isaman.  “Greta has a keen knowledge for the game and a way to motivate her teammates like no other.  Greta is extremely competitive and works very hard to improve herself and help improve her teammates every day.  Greta played a setter and middle hitter for us as we ran a 6-2 offense with her.  Greta is that type of player that you need touching the ball on every play.  Unfortunately, Greta suffered an extreme ankle sprain after our 4th game that was season ending for her.   Of course when you lose a girl like Greta it completely changes your team.  However, our girls were resilient and Greta immediately jumped into her role as assistant coach from the bench without a second thought and continued to lead this team in a positive way all year.  Greta Tollefson is a strong and confident athlete but even a better person.  She has been a joy to coach and watch compete all these years and will be greatly missed from our volleyball program next year.”
