Ashby senior Anissa Heinrich has tried her hand at several sports during her high school days, but has settled on volleyball and softball as her senior year activities.  Over the years she has participated in basketball and golf in addition to volleyball and softball.  She has also been active away from the sports arena as a member of the Student Council, a Class Officer, an Honor Band member and a member of MHS.

“My favorite sports memory is getting a home run without realizing it,” said Heinrich.  I hit it, there were people cheering and I was confused on where the ball went, so I ran!”

Her softball coach Autumn Flickinger say, “Anissa is my 2nd baseman and a great addition to the Arrows Softball team. Her work ethic helps to drive her teammates to work harder and want to do better not only for themselves but for the team as a whole. She does well at the plate and is aggressive, batting .300 her sophomore year, including a home run. Unfortunately, we were unable to play last spring due to COVID but I hope that this spring for her senior year I get to see her perform on the field again.”

Heinrich, who lists Chemistry and Biology, along with Writing, as her favorite school subjects, plans to attend the University of North Dakota where she will major in Nursing with a goal of becoming a CRNA.

“Being involved in high school sports has pushed me to be dedicated to hard work and my grades,” said Heinrich.  “It has built me into a team leader and has taught me to work hard, listen and accept criticism.  My favorite saying is, ‘hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.’”
