Pelican Rapids senior Weston Funk is planning on attending UND next year where he will major in Accounting.  Funk is another three sport athlete, competing in football, basketball and baseball for the Vikings.

“Being involved in sports taught me how to work hard even when I don’t want to,” said Funk.  “My top sports memories include goofing around at practices and the football game in the blizzard against Hawley my junior year.”

“Weston is one of the most consistent people I have ever been around,” commented Head Football Coach David Haugen.  “Whether it’s practice, summer weight room, a big game or in the classroom, you know exactly what you’re going to get from him.  The best thing about it is that he will work extremely hard and perform at a high level in each of those areas.  Weston is in a position that doesn’t generate many headlines, but we wouldn’t be the same team without him.”

Funk’s favorite high school subjects are Accounting and Calculus.  He is also a member of the Minnesota Honor Society.

“Weston has been a pleasure to coach and teach the last five years,” said Head Boys Basketball Coach John Gullingsrud.  “He is the definition of a student-athlete as he is an excellent student in the classroom who puts his academics first.  His work ethic is outstanding as he has always been a player that shows up to practice every day ready to give his best, which is a great example for the younger players in our program to look up to.”

His favorite quote is from former NFL Coach and broadcaster John Madden who said, “Usually the team that scores the most points wins the game.”
