A year ago the Underwood girls basketball team finished with a 20-7 overall record, winning the Little Eight Conference title with a 10-2 mark and finishing as Section 6A runners-up.  They ran off a string of 17 wins in their last 19 games.  Losing Kayla Rocholl, Ally Johnson and Ceri Meech has created some holes, but with a strong nucleus of returning players the Rockets are poised to challenge the top teams in the LEC and Section 6A in the 2020-2021 season.

“We lost a lot to graduation, but I think we return a lot of experience,” acknowledged Underwood Head Coach Brian Hovland, now in his 16th season.  “Last year we had a very deep team and I expect those kids will be able to step in to fill those positions.  I see us as being very athletic and able to run the floor.  Defensively, we should be tough.”

Returning letter winners include seniors Brooke Hovland (Guard), Ruby Dahlen (Post) and Lydia Baker (Post), juniors Josey Bugbee (Forward) and Brianna Evavold (Guard), sophomores Moraes Bugbee (Forward) and Jorja Gabrielson (Guard) and freshmen Ezrah Baker (Guard) and Liz Lukken (Guard).  Hovland, Dahlen and Josey Bugbee will serve as team captains.

Sophomores Amelia Blaskowski (Post), Alayna Evavold (Post), Becca Johnson (Guard) and Zoey Swanson (Post) will also by looking for varsity court time.

Hovland will be assisted by Carly Jensen.  He sees Parkers Prairie and Brandon-Evansville as favorites in the Little Eight Conference, with Henning the top team in Section 6A.
