The Alexandria Gymnastics team is coming off one of the best years in program history.  Their top score of 137.9 registered fifth all-time for the Cardinals.  They also had the second best combined varsity vault score in the history of Alexandria Gymnastics with a score of 36.675, and the fourth best combined score on beam (34.475) and floor exercise (35.7).  The Cardinals are poised to make another historic run in the 2020-2021 season.

“We are anxiously waiting to get back into the gymnastics facility,” said second year Head Coach Tayler Kaufman.  “This season we have doubled our team from 15 athletes to 30 athletes.  The incoming athletes are a talented group of girls with lots of abilities.  The newcomers have trained and competed alongside last year’s varsity team when they were younger in the club circuit, along with summer practice.”

Alexandria lost Kaylee Meyer to graduation.  “Kaylee was amazing on the beam and the vault,” said Kaufman.  “She was a great role model for athletes.”

Returning letter winners include seniors Kelsey Fletcher and Rachel Boyden, juniors Ailynn Fettig and Hailie Kent, sophomore Izzy Kent and freshman Sara Eddy.  Fletcher and Boyden will serve as captains.

Junior Loren Buggert, freshmen Addison Fettig and Dylan Witt, and eighth-grader Addison Twa are all expected to contribute at the varsity level.

“The athletes have been participating in optional virtual weight room practices Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays along with optional daily virtual gymnastics practice,” said Kaufman.  “We are using this opportunity to get our bodies and our minds mentally prepared for the season.  We are also doing lots of team bonding activities by having daily themes, playing online games (trivia, bingo), and going over goals.  The athletes are continuing to have positive mindsets about this upcoming season.  I have complete confidence that the girls will be ready to go once in person practice begins!”

Nichole Boyden and Adrienne Meyer will serve as assistants to Kaufman.

Kaufman says Sartell and St. Cloud Tech are the teams at the top of the Central Lakes Conference and Section 8AA.
