Pelican Rapids senior Levi Johnson has made the most of his high school years, participating in football, golf, trap shooting and as a member of the fishing team.  “Being in sports has made a huge impact on my life,” said Johnson.  “It is the reason that I’m such a hard worker and part of the reason I’m so tough!”

Football coach David Haugen said, “Levi won’t back down from a challenge.  He would be considered under-sized for his positions but you would never know it when you saw the results that he was able to produce.  He always showed up ready to work and to do what was needed to make the team better.”

As for a favorite sports memory, “Playing against Hawley last year in the snow has to be at the top,” said Johnson.  After High School he plans on getting the schooling needed to become an electrical lineman.  Hi favorite school subjects are Chemistry and History.

Golf Coach Doug Bruggeman commented that, “Levi has been a steady contributor to all of the sports programs at PRHS.  He has a wide range of interest and that is seen in the many activities in which he participates.  Whether he is competing in the intensity of football or on the golf course in the spring, Levi helps bring an attitude of ‘let’s work hard and have fun’.”

In addition to his involvement in a variety of athletic endeavors, Levi also served as the President of SADD and he loves to hunt and fish in his spare time.

Trap shooting Coach Sheri Meester says “Levi has a myriad of outstanding characteristics that we have appreciated as coaches since he began trap shooting in junior high.  At the forefront of positive characteristic is the fact that he is very personable to his teammates and coaching staff.  While he is a serious competitor, he has not ever lost sight of the fact that trap shooting is also a team sport.  He is supportive and compliments others.  He has a genuine heart of gold and a million dollar mischievous smile to match!  He has continuously taken the lead to help with practice set up and mentoring trap shooting athletes.  As an example, outside of the trap range, when our local Pelican River Pheasants Forever chapter has sponsored youth pheasant hunts, Levi has always been one that naturally mentored others regarding hunting firearm safety, group positioning and bird cleaning.  In short, as coaches, we are excited and hopeful for Levi’s senior trap shooting year and for what his future endeavors will hold.  Levi’s presence and personality will be missed by the coaching staff.”

Johnson leaves this advice to underclassmen, “Play every game like it’s your last, because your senior year comes up fast.”
