Dominic Aguilar is a senior at Fergus Falls High School.  He is a very versatile athlete, having participated in basketball, football, soccer and track and field.  Dom was All-Conference in basketball his junior year and holds the single season assist record for the Otters.  He also enjoys hunting during his down time and has been involved in the Otter Leadership Academy.

“Dom has had a tremendous impact on our program,” stated Head Basketball Coach Matt Johnson.  “He has worked incredibly hard since he was young, and that desire and love of the game has served him well.  He has been intentional about learning from others and is always willing to help pass his knowledge down to younger players.  It has been impressive to see his growth as a leader in our program.  In terms of a skill set, Dominic is so versatile and impacts the game in so many ways.  His single season assist record speaks volumes about his vision, passing and ability to make the players around him better.  He is a really good scorer, as well.  He can really shoot it, finishes well at the rim, and can get to the free throw line. Defensively, his length gives other guards a real problem.  I am thankful I get to coach Dominic, and thankful for what he has done to continue the tradition of strong culture in our program.”

Dom points to his junior year of basketball as his top sports memory.  The Otters were 25-4, won many close games and were schedule to play for the Section championship before their game against Perham was cancelled due to the Coronavirus.  In addition, Dom was instrumental in several game winning baskets in the Otters tight games.  He is planning on playing college basketball, but has not decided on a college at this time.  He may major in Physical Therapy or Personal Training/Exercise Science, but hasn’t made that final decision.  He lists Social Studies as his favorite high school subject.

“Being involved in sports has taught me discipline, the importance of confidence, and the benefits of being competitive in all aspects of life,” said Aguilar.

Football Coach Steve Olson said, “Dom had the ability to do a lot of things for us in football.  His knowledge of the game, competitiveness and athletic ability allowed for him to be able to play wide receiver his junior year and move to quarterback his senior year.  Defensively, he had the ability to play any of the spots in the secondary.  Unfortunately, an injury ended his senior season in an already short season.”

Dominic joined the track and field team as a sophomore, but really hasn’t been able to show his stuff in that sport.  “He was just learning the proper techniques in his events when he was injured and not able to finish the season his sophomore year,” recalled Fergus Falls Head Boys Track and Field Coach Randy Hansen.  “With last spring cancelled we were never able to tap into that potential.  His overall athletic ability makes him a great fit for track and field.  If we had more time with him I really thing he would have had a lot of success.”

Dom’s favorite quote is, “Forget the mistake, remember the lesson.”

His advice for underclassmen, “Hard work pays off.  Don’t slack and you will like the outcome.”
