Gavin Johnson made his mark in track and field his sophomore year at Breckenridge High School and has been a 3-year starter for the Cowboys on the football field.

“As a sophomore, Gavin placed fifth in the shot put at the Section 6A Track and Field meet,” recalled Head Coach Brad Lindberg.  “Since I’ve been on the Breckenridge Track and Field staff, I don’t remember us ever having a sophomore male athlete place in this event, which dates back to 1996.  Unfortunately, like other Track and Field athletes, Gavin didn’t have the opportunity to compete his junior year.  We are hoping they all have a chance to compete in the spring.”

Johnson counts winning the Section Football Championship in football this fall as his top sports memory and he plans on continuing his football career when he heads to MSUM next fall.

“Gavin has been a great leader and has anchored our offensive and defensive line that have been our backbone over the last 3 years,” commented Head Football Coach Chad Fredericksen.  “The tougher the task, the better he played, and that is why we gave him a lot of those assignments.  As outstanding as Gavin is on the field, he is even a better person off the field.  Can’t say enough great thing about him.  He is going to be missed.”

Johnson was also involved in Mathletes and Knowledge Bowl.  His favorite subject is Math.

“Being involved in sports has really helped me make friends and helped me to become a better person,” noted Johnson.

As for advice to underclassmen, Johnson says simply, “Dreams don’t work, unless you do.”
