Adam Shaw wan an All-State Honorable Mention selection as a junior in football and was a key part in the undefeated 7-0 2020 season for the Hancock Owls this past fall.  He is a three-sport athlete, participating in basketball in the winter and baseball in the spring.  He also is an avid hunter and fisherman.

“My top sports moment was last year being able to play in the Prep Bowl and hearing the crowd cheering at US Bank Stadium,” said Shaw.  “We then jumped right into the basketball season with limited practices and competed against the Section champs, West Central Area, and beat BBE the next day.”

Football Coach Chad Christianson knows how important Shaw was to his team’s success on the gridiron, “Adam is a three-year starter for us defensively and a two-year starter at center.  He is not the biggest center, but knows how to use his leverage and angles to block player that he is giving up 100 pounds to.  With his athleticism, he is also able to pull in front of running backs and make blocks down field that have sprung many of our long runs both last year and this year.  Adam is a very intelligent player and I know that I will talk about his vision as a blocker for years to come.  Defensively, he always seems to be in the right place.  Outside of his bright pink hair during the season, he is the player that comes to practice every day and gets to work to make everyone better.  He also helps out with our younger players and helps them to become better athletes and people.”

Adam will be attending NDSU and will be studying to become a Radiologic Technologist.  His favorite high school subjects are Math, Physical Education and Science.

“Adam has also been starting on the baseball team since his freshman year,” continued Christianson.  “No matter where we put him on the field or where he is in the lineup you know he is solid and is going to get the job done.  Adam’s ability to keep things light, while staying focused, will truly be missed.  He has done a great job of showing younger players that doing what is best for the team and sacrificing personal glory for team glory will always pay off.”

Shaw says throughout his high school career he has had coaches who have told him to always challenge himself in everything he does and to prove the unbelievers wrong.  He likes to say, “It’s a dirty job, but someone has to do it.”

“One of the first things that comes to my mind when I think of Adam is that he is one of the smartest players on the court, and when I say that I mean he sees the floor so well and is always in the right place, whether it’s offense or defense,” commented Head Basketball Coach Cory Bedel.  “He just understand the game so well.  Adam is probably one of our best defenders and he takes pride in playing defense.  He is usually guarding one of the opponents’ best players every game and take a lot of pride in that.  Adam was a starter for us last year and was our Most Improved Player.  He has also been named a team captain for this upcoming season.  He has been a huge part of our program and the success of the last couple of years.”
