Pirates End Season with 7-1 Record after 38-16 Victory over Warriors

Verndale scored all three first half touchdowns to build a 22-0 halftime lead against Wheaton/Herman-Norcross on Friday night on the way to a 38-16 victory over the Warriors.  The Pirates completed a 7-1 season with the win, while the Warriors finished 4-4.

Grant Dawson scored both TD’s for Wheaton/Herman-Norcross, the first on an 11 yard pass from Zach Braaten and the second on a 68 yard aerial from Braaten.  Connor Zych was on the receiving end of Braaten’s two-point conversion pass after the first touchdown and Gunner Martinek ran the ball in for the two-points following the second TD.

Braaten completed 20-of-36 passes for 276 yards and ran the ball for 45 yards on 5 attempts.  Dawson hauled in 10 passes for 179 yards and Zych had 4 receptions for 48 yards.  The Warriors accumulated 355 total yards (276 passing, 79 rushing).

Verndale had 76 offensive snaps, recorded 27 first downs and compiled 471 yards (236 passing, 235 rushing) of total offense.  No individual stats were reported by the Pirates.
