The Pelican Rapids Vikings ended their volleyball season Friday night traveling to Hawley for a Heart O’ Lakes Conference match against the Nuggets.  Hawley posted a 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-13) win over the Vikings.

“Like many other teams, the Vikings were saddened to hear our season would be over tonight, but also grateful to get one more game,” stated Head Coach Heidi Isaman.  “Like many teams, the Vikings have had some weekly and daily changes in lineups but once again I was so proud of how our girls pushed through and adapted too changes.  8th graders Hazel Haugrud and Anna Roisum have done an amazing job filling some big shoes to help us out the last few weeks.  They both came up with confidence and made many huge plays for the Vikings.  Junior setter Sophia Paulson took on a lot of pressure this season. After losing senior setter and middle hitter Greta Tollefson to injury early in the season we switched over to a 5-1 offense and Paulson has done a great job running the show and leader our team.  Senior defensive specialist Allie Haiby and Kiera Booth also showed great leadership tonight running the back row.  Haiby showed great grit on the court going hard after every ball and Booth did an amazing job jumping in as 2nd setter and making some big plays.  Senior middle hitter Anna Stephenson hit the ball well tonight and really started passing the ball well the last set.  Over all the Vikings hung with the Nuggets all night but were not in system enough to fire away our offense and the Nuggets had more offensive opportunities than we did to get the win.”

The Vikings were led by Anna Stephenson (6 kills, 11 digs, 1 block kill), Tori Stephenson (4 kills, 4 digs), Ellie Welch (3 kills, 1 block kill), Sophia Paulson (9 set assists, 9 digs), Haugrud (13 digs), Roisum (4 digs), Haiby (6 digs), Booth (3 digs, 1 ace) and Kesley Isaman (3 digs).

“Even though our record was not what we wanted this season, I could not be more proud of this team,” concluded Coach Isaman.  “They are an amazing groups of girls that showed great grit and resilience all season!”
