Barnesville defeated Hawley 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-20) in a Heart O’ Lakes Conference volleyball match on Thursday night in Barnesville.  The Trojans served 100% (73/73) on the night.

“It was very apparent that these girls were going to leave it all on the court,” stated Barnesville Head Coach Megan Askegaard. “The way that they came out to start the match tonight was what we have been waiting to see. They played with passion and confidence. We worked hard to give the Nuggets a tough first ball and it made it difficult for them to run their offense smoothly. Our goal was to take them out of system and we did just that. We also knew that we needed to serve receive pass much better than we had been.”

Kim Maesse distributed 18 set assists, had 6 digs and was a perfect 7-for-7 on the serving line.  Allie Aadland led the Trojans with 21 digs and was 9-for-9 serving.  Samantha Passa led the attack with 9 kills, while adding 19 digs and a perfect 18-for-18 on the serving line. Lexi Bolgrean (8 kills, 14/14 serving, 20 digs), Katie Newell (8 set assists, 12/12 serving, 1 ace, 10 digs), Jordan Tschumperlin (7 kills, 11/11 serving, 1 ace, 5 digs), Olivia Sorenson (5 kills) and Emily Bredman (4 kills) also contributed.

Sam, Lexi, and Allie did a nice job passing the first ball tonight and getting us set up into our offense,” noted Coach Askegaard. “Kim led us in assists tonight which was nice to see on senior night. We are all so proud of her as she was working to reach 1,000 assists this year, but due to covid and loss of matches she is going to fall just slightly short. She needed just 84 before tonight’s match to get her goal. Emily and Jordan did a great job establishing their position in the middle tonight. They worked hard on blocking all areas on the net and also getting in for the attack. Our right sides provided another attacking option for us tonight when we were passing well. Anna Stanford, Liv, and Lauren Halverson all did a super job taking out the Nugget setter with their attack. Tonight we honored our seniors, Sam, Kim, Olivia, Jordan, and Allie. They have provided us with great leadership over the years and we are so proud of all that they have accomplished in their career. We thank them for being great teammates and wish them the very best!”
