Wheaton/Herman-Norcross defeated West Central Area in four sets (25-19, 22-25, 26-24, 25-23) on Thursday night in Wheaton in a very competitive volleyball match.

“The Knights battled it out tonight, every set was tight, but it was the Warriors coming out on top,” reported WCA Head Coach Missy Foslien.  “Both teams played great defense which made for some long and exciting rallies.  The odds just weren't in our favor at the end of a couple of sets.  We had some great touches on defense which allowed our backrow players to pick up quite a bit, we just didn't find enough holes in Wheaton's defense.”

Leaders for the Warriors were Kyah Thomas (7/17 serving, 1 ace, 3 block assists, 2 kills, 8 digs), Emily Berger (17/18 serving, 1 ace), Amanda Lanter (18/20 serving, 15 set assists, 6 digs), Ellissa Rinke (13/15 serving, 13 kills, 6 block assists, 21 digs), Izzy Schmidt (14/17 serving, 1 ace, 8 kills, 11 digs) and Olivia Hasbargen (910 serving, 4 kills, 13 digs). Avah Sykora added 11 digs and 4 set assists, and Brylie Schultz had 7 digs and 4 set assists.

“We played our final game of the season versus West Central and we won in an amazing game which was hard fought on both sides,” said Wheaton/Herman-Norcross Head Coach Ann Dreke.  “I am so proud of how we played tonight and so thankful we were able to finish our season with a game.  It was also parents night and senior night.  We will miss our seniors next year.”

Offensively, the Knights had three players with 9 kills each; Morgan Stark went 50/57 with 9 kills, Elizabeth Rustan had 32/39 with 9 kills, and Mya Foslien was 30/32 with 9 kills.  At the service line Morgan Stark was 20/21 with 4 aces, and Maddie Nadgwick went 10/12 with 4 aces.  Sophie Sanstead and Macy Grosz shared setting duties and did a great job feeding their hitters.  Halle Foslien and Elizabeth Rustan worked hard defensively combining for 5 ace blocks and several touches.  “We were able to keep our games close, unfortunately when we needed a big kill or two we just could not put the ball down,” added Coach Foslien.  “We hope with our final game Friday we can do just that!”

The Knights will face the Benson Braves in their final performance of 2020 on Friday night.
