Warriors Win Big Over Bertha-Hewitt

Wheaton/Herman-Norcross scored in every quarter on Tuesday night as they recorded a 48-0 shutout victory over Bertha-Hewitt in the quarterfinal round of the Section 4 9-Man football playoffs.

Zach Braaten led the charge with 362 passing yards and 3 TD passes, completing 25-of-30 attempts.  He also ran for 46 yards on 9 carries and scored a pair of rushing TD’s.  Braaten completed passes to seven different players, led by Gunner Martinek (4 catches, 86 yards, TD), Connor Zych (7 catches, 85 yards), Grant Dawson (6 catches, 77 yards, TD), Hunter Blume (2 receptions, 70 yards, TD) and Jarred Ehlers (5 receptions, 31 yards).

The Warriors had 507 total yards on the day and didn’t turn the ball over.  Bertha-Hewitt was held to 128 yards, with only 9 coming through the air.  The Bears also had 3 turnovers in the game.

First quarter TD’s came on a 30 yard pass from Braaten to Dawson and a 4-yard run by Braaten.  Martinek ran for the two-point conversion after the second TD and the Warriors led 14-0 after one.

In the second quarter, Blume hauled in a 65 yard pass from Braaten and Braaten added a 4-yard run, giving Wheaton/Herman-Norcross a 26-0 halftime edge.

Martinek caught a 39 yard TD pass from Braaten and then ran the ball in from the 2 yard line for their third quarter scored.  Braaten also scored on a two-point conversion run and the Warriors led 40-0 after three quarters.

The final score of the night came on a one yard run by Drake Berning and a two-point conversion run by Berning, putting the final score at 48-0.

Wheaton/Herman-Norcross will play at Verndale in the Section 4 9-Man semifinals at 2:00pm Saturday.

No individual stats were reported by Bertha-Hewitt.
