Coming off a close one 6 days ago the  #2 Verndale Pirates hosted the #7 Rothsay Tigers in a rematch that went the Pirates way the first time, 28-20.  This time it was all Pirates as they shutout the Tigers by the score of 42-0 in the Section 4 9-Man playoffs.

After Verndale recovered the opening onside kick, the Tiger defense stopped them right away and forced a punt.  Rothsay also punted on their first possession and in the first quarter it looked like another defensive battle between two physical teams.  Verndale scored first and go up 8-0.  The Tigers then drove all the way to the two yard line but a penalty and a sack pushed them back and they were unable to reach the end zone.  The first quarter ended 8-0.

In the second quarter Verndale mixed the pass and runs and scored two more times for a halftime lead of 22-0.  The second half was all Verndale as they scored at will against a defeated Tiger team.  The final score was 42-0.

“We didn’t have it tonight,” Rothsay Coach Joshua Nordick said.  “We had no answer for them on defense and couldn’t climb out of the hole we were in.  Hats off to my seniors who played their final game tonight.  They were the leaders on the team and played hard.  They will be missed greatly in the years to come.”

The Pirates (6-1) have won four straight games.  Their next matchup is at 2:00pm Saturday against Wheaton/Herman-Norcross.
