The Pelican Rapids Vikings traveled to Battle Lake Monday, November 16 to play their first non-conference match and get their first win of the season in 4 sets, 13-25, 28-26, 25-22, 25-15.  “Due to the quick restart of the season this year, our schedule has looked quite different playing entirely a conference schedule thus far,” said Head Coach Heidi Isaman of the Vikings.  “We were excited tonight to play a new team in a different conference.”

“The Vikings started with a last minute change to our line up as right side hitter Ella Backstrom was absent,” reported Coach Isaman.  “8th grader Anna Roisum did a great job not only making her varsity debut but starting and playing all 4 sets in a new position for her.  I was very pleased with how Anna stepped into a new role to help us out on the right side.  She got more and more aggressive as the night went on and had 2 kills on the night.  8th grade Hazel Haugrud also made her varsity debut and also did a great job playing a left back defensive players for us.   Hazel did a great job serving and reading the Battlers off paced roll shots that were giving us a bit of trouble.”

Leaders for the Vikings were Anna Stephenson (14 kills, 12 digs, 3 block kills, 1 ace), Allie Haiby (14 digs, 1 ace), Tori Stephenson (7 kills, 3 digs), Sophia Paulson (22 set assists, 7 digs, 2 aces), Kelsey Isaman (6 digs, 3 kills, 1 ace) and Hazel Haugrud (6 digs).  Kiera Booth and Sylvia Pesch added 5 digs apiece.

The Vikings will host DGF on Thursday and travel to Hawley for a make-up match on Friday.
