Cowgirls Top Vikings in 3 Sets

The Pelican Rapids Vikings hosted Breckenridge Thursday, November 12 with the Cowgirls completing a 25-13, 25-16, 25-17 sweep of the home team.

 

“We ran our offense well, averaging over ten kills per set,” commented Breckenridge Head Coach Margaret Wilson.  “This was a complete Cowgirl match from start to finish with no let-up.  We had solid defensive play and great blocking, plus we served up 10 aces!”

Carcie Materi (4 aces, 16 set assists, 7 digs), Abby Johnson (10 kills, 8 digs, 3 aces), Kaylin Nicholson (7 digs), Jude Held (3 kills, 4 block assists, 2 digs), Camryn Kaehler (15 kills, 3 block assists, 6 digs, 1 ace), Riley Finkral (16 digs, 3 kills), Sophie Larson (11 set assists, 10 digs, 2 aces) and Victoria Undem (4 kills, 2 block assists, 3 digs) led the Cowgirls.

“We started very strong tonight executing our offense very well,” reported Pelican Rapids Head Coach Heidi Isaman.  “We have been working hard on getting ourselves in system at a higher percentage and our back row passers made big strides with that tonight. Outside hitters Tori Stephenson and Kelsey Isaman did a great job swinging through the Cowgirls’ blockers tonight while senior Anna Stephenson hit extremely well form the back row to add some key kills for us.” 

The Vikings were led by Anna Stephenson (10 kills, 1 block), Kelsey Isaman (4 kills, 2 aces, 10 digs), Tori Stephenson (4 kills, 2 aces, 4 digs, 2 set assists), Ellie Welch (4 kills, 1 block), Ella Backstrom (3 kills), Allie Haiby (10 digs), Sylvia Pesch (4 digs) and Sophie Paulson 18 set assists).

“Even though our outcome was not what we wanted, I was extremely proud of how these girls played against a very strong conference team,” added Coach Isaman.  “We are making big strides in our serve receive and blocking which have been our big goals this year.  These girls work really hard and put forth great effort and grit all night.  The Vikings are excited to travel to Battle Lake Monday for our first non-conference game of the year.”
