Warriors Protect Early Lead to Post 42-22 Win Over Ortonville

Wheaton/Herman-Norcross scored 14 first quarter points, led 34-8 at the half and went on to post a 42-22 victory over The Ortonville Trojans on Wednesday night.

The first touchdown for the Warriors came on an 8 yard run by Gunner Martinek.  Martinek then caught a 15-yard pass from Zach Braaten.  Braaten then hooked up with Connor Zych for the two-point conversion as the Warriors took a 14-0 lead at the end of one quarter.

Ethan Nachbor scored to start the second quarter on a 12 yard pass from Braaten, making it 20-0.  Martinek’s third TD of the game came on a 2-yard run, building the Warriors lead to 26-0.

Ortonville got on the board on a 78 yard TD pass and a successful two-point conversion, making the score 26-8.  Jarred Ehlers was on the receiving end of a 63 yard pass from Braaten and then Martinek ran for the two-point conversion, making it a 34-8 lead for Wheaton/Herman-Norcross.

In the third quarter the Trojans scored on a 4-yard run, cutting the Warriors lead to 34-14.

Ortonville recorded a safety in the fourth quarter and then added a 36-yard TD pass to make it a 34-22 game.  Martinek found the end zone for a fourth time, this time on a one yard run.  Grant Dawson caught a pass from Braaten for the two-point conversion and the final score was 42-22.

Martinek ran for 72 yards on 17 carries, scoring 3 TD’s.  Ehlers had 53 yards on 10 carries and caught one pass for 63 yards.  Receiving leaders were Nachbor (3 catches, 39 yards, Zych (3 catches, 33 yards) and Dawson (3 receptions, 33 yards).  Zych was the defensive leader with 11 solo tackles, 5 assisted tackles and 2 sacks.
