The Hancock football team remained unbeaten through five games with a convincing 58-0 win over Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley on Friday night in Hancock.

“We had another great team win this past Saturday against CGB,” said Hancock Head Coach Chad Christianson.  “I was very impressed with the way CGB came out and played hard all day.  Due to the team being in quarantine they had been unable to practice as a team leading up to the game but they definitely came ready to play.”

Luke Joos got the Owls on the board when he hauled in a 2-yard pass from Preston Rohloff early in the first quarter.  A successful two-point conversion run by Isaac Nienhaus put the Owls in front, 8-0.  Nienhaus broke loose for a 34-yard touchdown run, increasing their lead to 14-0 and a 19 yard run by Rohloff for the third TD of the quarter gave Hancock a 22-0 advantage after one quarter of play.

In the second quarter, Rohloff connected with Brandon Kellenberger on a 9 yard scoring toss and then the two hooked up on the two-point conversion, giving the Owls a 30-0 lead.  It grew to 38-0 on a 5 yard run by Davin Rose and a Rohloff pass to Joos for the two-point conversion.  The half ended 44-0, Owls, after Kellenberger snagged an 18 yard pass from Rohloff.

Hancock added a pair of third quarter TD’s, the first on a 55 yard run by David Milander, followed by a two-point conversion pass from Rose to Devon Schroeder, and the second on a 12 yard run by Rose.

“We had a very balanced offensive attack this week finding success through the air and on the ground,” noted Christianson. “And once again our defense played a great game allowing 110 yards and forcing 4 turnovers.  I was very pleased with the way that our line played on both sides of the ball.  Adam Shaw and Isaiah Flaten did a great job opening up holes and getting down field to spring some of our longer runs.  And Bryce Hacker did a phenomenal job being a run stopper and plugging up the middle all day.  Our FB Toby Messner also played a key role in our run success this week leading the way for both Luke Joos and Isaac Nienhaus.”

Hancock recorded 24 first downs, accumulated 496 yards of offense, 234 passing and 262 rushing, and held C-G-B to 110 total yards, all on the ground.  Leaders for the Owls were Rohloff (19 completions, 28 attempts, 220 yards, 3 TDs), Joos (4 carries, 70 yards, 4 catches, 15 yards, TD), Milander (1 carry, 55 yards, TD), Nienhaus (3 carries, 41 yards, TD, 3 catches, 53 yards) and Kellenberger (7 receptions, 89 yards, 2 TDs).  Joos and Devon Schroeder each intercepted a pass in the game, while Matt Thompson and Dain Schroeder each recovered a fumble.  Jackson Koehl led the team with 3 solo tackles and 8 assisted tackles.

“We now look to prepare for a tough Brandon Evansville team on Thursday night in Brandon,” concluded Coach Christianson.  “We have had a lot of good close games with them in the past few years and this one looks like it will be another.”
