Perham ran for 437 yards and Colton Hackel scored four of the six rushing touchdowns for the Yellowjackets as they handed East Grand Forks a 42-7 loss on Friday night. Hackel finished the game with 248 rushing yards on 30 carries, while completing 2-of-5 passes for 41 yards and one touchdown. Chas Melvin added 126 yards rushing on 13 carries.
Hackel’s first TD came with 5:45 remaining in the first quarter as he capped an 8-play, 66-yard scoring drive with an 8 yard run to the end zone. He then scored on a two-point conversion run to give Perham an 8-0 lead.
Melvin scored on a 17 yard run and Hackel finished with the two-point conversion run with 9:46 left in the first half, increasing the lead to 16-0. A 10-yard run by Hackel made it a 22-0 game with 5:30 left in the second quarter, and with just 46 seconds to halftime Hackel connected with Josh Peterson on a 17-yard TD pass, providing the Yellowjackets with a 28-0 halftime advantage.
Five yard and three yard touchdown runs by Hackel in the third quarter were separated by the only EGF TD of the game, a 7 yard pass from Sam Votava to Cole Gerber, followed by a Justin Overgaard PAT kick. Hackel and Peterson hooked up for a two-point conversion following the final touchdown of the night to put the final score at 42-7.
The Perham defense held East Grand Forks to 216 yards of offense and only 8 first downs. Carter Vasek led the ground attack for the Greenwave with 63 yards on 18 attempts. Votava completed 3-of-7 passes for 81 yards.
Caleb Lung, Colby Vroman and Luis Montes each recorded a sack in the game and Brian Ramos recovered a fumble.
Perham (2-3) will host Fergus Falls (2-3) at 7:00pm Wednesday in the regular season finale for both teams.
