Knights Beat Pillager to End Sub-District Play with 3-0 Mark

The West Central Area/Ashby Knights overcame four turnovers on Friday night in Pillager to hand the Huskies a 28-20 loss and finish their Midwest Blue Sub-District season with a record of 3-0.  The Knights end the regular season with an overall mark of 3-2.

The Knights started quickly as Jaden Norby scored just 1:38 into the contest on a five yard run.  With 4:42 left in the first quarter Pillager pulled even at 6-6 when Quintin Laveau hauled in a 21-yard scoring toss from Blake Clark.  WCA/Ashby went back on top when Norby scored on another 5-yard run with only 49 seconds remaining in the opening quarter, making it 12-6, Knights.

Pillager forged ahead with a pair of second quarter TD’s, the first coming with 8:33 left in the half when Hunter Gjovik scored on a fumble return, tying the game at 12-12, and the second coming just 13 minutes later on a 60 yard TD run by Griffin Decker.  The two-point conversion run by Gjovik increased the Huskies lead to 20-12.  The Knights finished the half strong as Anthony Sykora scored on a 2-yard run with 5:50 left and then scored the two-point conversion to once again tie the game, this time at 20-20.

Jordan Lohse scored the final touchdown of the night with 8:40 left in the third quarter on a 9-yard run.  The two-point conversion pass from Evan Paulson to Torin Olson put the final score at 28-20.

The Knights ended up with 322 total yards, 234 on the ground and 88 through the air.  Individual leaders were Lohse (9 carries, 114 yards), Norby (12 carries, 61 yards, 4 completions, 5 attempts, 28 yards, 2 receptions, 60 yards), Sykora (17 carries, 59 yards) and Paulson (60 passing yards).

Decker led Pillager with 115 rushing yards on 19 carries, and Clark completed 6-of-11 passes for 85 yards.  AJ Gratke was the leading receiver with 2 catches for 60 yards.  Pillager had 236 yards of total offense in the game.

Norby led the defensive effort by the Knights, recording 9.5 tackles (6 solo, 7 assisted).  Nate Kisgen assisted on 9 tackles in the game.

Pillager (2-3) will finish their regular season schedule with a 5:00pm kick-off in Roseau on Wednesday.
