The Rothsay Tigers played host to the Sebeka Trojans on Friday afternoon.  Sebeka is in their first year after splitting off from their coop with Menahga (United North Central). The Trojans  were looking for their first win of the year.

The Tigers started the game on offense and got off to a promising start with a 25 yard run on the first play of the game, but a fumble on their second play ended the drive quickly.  The Rothsay defense got the first score of the game, falling on a fumble in Sebeka’s end zone to take an early 6-0 lead.  The Tigers got the ball back and scored again, this time on a 4 yard touchdown run.  After forcing a punt by the Trojans, Rothsay got the ball back as they were showing signs early on of turning the game into a rout, however, after trading drives ending in fumbles, the Trojans made their first stop on defense.  They used that momentum to score on a 15 yard pass play to cut the lead to 12-6.  With only a little more than 2 minutes left in the half, Rothsay marched down the field and scoredone more time on a 3 yard pass, extending their lead to 20-6 at halftime.

“The boys played hard tonight,” Rothsay Coach Joshua Nordick said.  “We were missing a few players and were able to get 6 different runners in the game and get nearly 300 yards rushing. We challenged the team to mix in at different positions, sometimes playing running back and the next play playing guard.  They responded well with very few hiccups. I was proud of that.”

In the second half both teams drove down the field but came up empty in the third quarter.  After the Tigers scored on a 10 yard run in the 4th quarter, the Trojans scored again for a final score of 28-14 and another win for the Tigers.

The Tigers (2-3) will conclude their regular season schedule against the 4-1 Verndale Pirates on Wednesday night.
