The Breckenridge Cowgirls hosted Barnesville on Thursday night and the Trojans handed them their first loss in seven matches this season, winning 3 sets to 1 (25-19, 25-21, 21-25, 25-22).

The Trojans were led by Samantha Passa (16 kills, 15/15 serving, 1 ace, 20 digs, 4 block assists), Lexi Bolgrean (6 kills, 18/19 serving, 3 aces, 18 digs), Kim Maesse (32 set assists, 10/10 serving, 11 digs), Emily Bredman (6 kills, 13 digs), Jordan Tschumperlin (5 kills, 19/19 serving, 1 ace, 5 digs, 3 solo blocks, 4 block assists), Anna Stanford (18/18 serving, 1 ace, 13 digs) and Allie Aadland (12/13 serving, 20 digs).

“Last night we had an intense, aggressive HOL battle with the Cowgirls down in Breckenridge,” stated Barnesville Head Coach Megan Askegaard. “We came out tonight with a different rotation due to an illness on the team that we had one day to prepare for and I was very impressed with how well these athletes adapted. We missed 2 serves all night and that was huge in not giving up free points to the Cowgirls. We were confident in our passing and really worked as a unit to put the ball down on the court on their side. Our block was impressive tonight as well. Emily, Jordan, Sam, and Lauren were huge up on the net tonight even as we were putting up a single block against one of their biggest hitters. Sam had a great night attacking, leading us with 16 kills. Kim Maesse ran the setting position tonight all by herself and was able to put up 32 assists on the night. Our defense hustled all over the court tonight and picked up many hard hit balls by the Cowgirls. I was very pleased with how well we attacked tonight and didn’t want to give them any easy points. This was a big win for us in boosting our confidence and getting us back in action again. We will be playing again on Tuesday night, in Frazee due to school being closed to the outside in Barnesville.”

The Cowgirls were led by Abby Johnson (12 kills, 1 solo block, 7 digs), Carcie Materi (23 set assists, 4 digs), Jude Held (9 kills), Camryn Kaehler (13 kills, 13 digs), Riley Finkral (4 ace serves, 19 digs), Sophie Larson (24 set assists, 5 digs), Victoria Undem (10 kills, 2 block assists) and Ana Erickson (1 ace serve, 5 kills, 2 block assists, 1 solo block).
