Perham posted a 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-13) Heart O’ Lakes Conference volleyball win over Pelican Rapids on Thursday night on the Yellowjackets home floor.

“We started strong and played a great first set,” reported Pelican Rapids Head Coach Heidi Isaman.  “We have been struggling on our blocking and front row transition and spent a lot of time in practice this week improving these skills.  Our middle blockers Anna Stephenson and Ellie Welch made great gains tonight to get the most blocks we have had for several weeks since we lost our middle blocker Greta Tollefson to an ankle injury.  Both of these girls worked really hard at the net and made huge gains.  Our Defensive specialists Kiera Booth, Allie Haiby, and Sylvia Pesch all played a solid game for us tonight as well. Junior setter Sophia Paulson did a good job mixing the offense up and feeding Anna Stephenson in the front and back row who was hitting the ball extremely well tonight.”

Anna Stephenson led the Vikings with 11 kills, 5 digs and a pair of block kills.  Welch added 5 kills and 2 blocks and Kelsey Isaman had a team high 11 digs, while Pesch had 8.  Sophia Paulson dished out 15 assists.

“The Vikings played hard but lost a close set 1, 21-25,” said Coach Isaman  “Set 2 we played decent defense making those block adjustments and making some big digs.  We had a run of serve receive passing that hurt us and kept us out of system and Perham took advantage.  Ellie Welch had a couple big kills to get us back in but a few service errors and a struggle to defend their attack from behind the setter hurt us and we lost a hard fought set 2 17-25.  Set 3 the Vikings lost some confidence and communication and got out of sync quickly.  Sophomore Sylvia Pesch started serve receiving well again and Kelsey Isaman really stepped up her defense and we were back on a little run but the Yellow jackets did a good job of keeping us out of system and we just did not get enough opportunities to get our offense going. The Vikings lost set 3 13-25.”
