Owls Compile 535 Yards in Win Over Verndale at UM-Morris

The Hancock football team passed for 419 of their 535 total yards as they tallied 48 points in a 48-14 victory over Verndale on Friday, October 23 at UM-Morris.

Preston Rohloff completed 15-of-25 passes and fired 5 touchdown passes in the game, three of them to Matt Thompson (3 catches, 109 yards) and two to Brad Kellenberger (4 catches, 171 yards).  Luke Joos hauled in five passes for 110 yards and Isaac Nienhaus had 3 receptions for 26 yards.  Joos led the rushing attack with 41 yards on 6 carries, scoring one TD on the ground.

Rohloff and Kellenberger got things going with touchdown passes of 55 and 85 yards in the first quarter.  Rohloff scored on a two-point conversion run following the first score and then he scored the third TD of the quarter on a 7-yard run, staking the Owls to a 20-0 lead after one quarter of play.

The second quarter started with more of the same as Rohloff connected with Thompson on TD passes covering 89 yards and 14 yards.  Joos scored on a two-point conversion run after the first TD of the quarter. 

With Hancock leading 34-0, Verndale recorded back to back touchdowns on a one yard run and a 25 yard pass, after which they converted their two-point try, cutting the lead to 34-14.

Joos capped the tremendous first half with a 15-yard run and the Owls took a 40-14 lead into the break.

The final touchdown of the night came on a 6-yard pass from Rohloff to Thompson.  The two also hooked up on the two-point conversion pass.

Kellenberger led the defensive effort with 3 solo tackles and 11 assisted tackles.  Verndale managed 220 yards (125 passing, 95 rushing) in the game.
