The West Central Area Knights hosted the Brandon-Evansville Chargers in a non-conference volleyball match on Monday night with the visitors sweeping the home team 25-13, 25-7, 25-22).

“Traveling to WCA we wanted to do a couple things in order to get out with a win: limit our mistakes and be solid from the serving line,” noted B-E Head Coach Kelly Olson.  “For the first and second sets we did both those, but during the third set we moved away from being fundamentally sound.  We did recover at the end, but we lost our focus.  WCA did a great job being more aggressive in that third set, and it made for an interesting set three.  On the night we saw us cover tips very well and dig the ball.  We transitioned pretty well and served tough. Even though that third set wasn’t how we wanted it, we did finish strong and that is what is important.  We are looking forward to Ashby coming to Evansville Thursday evening for another Little 8 match.”

Leaders for the Chargers were Schaefer (13 kills, 18/20 serving, 3 aces), Pattrin (7 kills, 3 blocks, 12/12 serving, 2 aces), Kylee Dingwall (5 kills, 7 digs, 1 ace), Korrie Randt (25 set assists, 1 block), Taylor Yeats (9/9 serving, 3 aces), Gretchen Bredberg (15/16 serving, 1 ace) and Grace Otto (7 digs).

“It was a tough night for the Knights against a very tough Brandon-Evansville team,” reported WCA Head Coach Missy Foslien.  “We started the game playing very tough defense, getting nice touches on their hits from Elizabeth Rustan and Kaitlyn Hansen who played great defense.  We just couldn’t keep that pace going.  A few hard, untouched hits by the Chargers Bailey Schaefer and some blocks by their middle hitter, Mikenna Pattrin hurt us, and we just couldn’t find the floor on offense when we needed to.  We need to have a well-balanced offense and we really struggled in serve receive in spurts, giving them too many points and runs.  If we can hold teams to 2-3 points at a time it just makes things a little easier.”

The lady Knights were led by Morgan Stark (4 kills), Brooke Anderson (3 kills, 11/11 serving), Macy Grosz (6 set assists, 9/10 serving), Hansen (12 digs) and Rustan (1 block, 6/6 serving).

The Knights will face the Hancock Owls on Thursday in Hancock.
