In their first match since October 8 the Barnesville Trojans put up a fight against the Hawley Nuggets, but Hawley was able to secure a 3-2 (15-25, 25-18, 25-23, 27-29, 15-6) victory on Saturday afternoon on the Nuggets home court.

The Trojans were led by Samantha Passa (11 kills, 26/27 serving, 5 aces, 17 digs, 1 solo block), Emily Bredman (11 kills, 5 solo blocks), Lexi Bolgrean (6 kills, 12/14 serving, 1 ace, 31 digs), Allie Aadland (20 digs, 10/10 serving), Katie Newell (15 set assists, 10/10 serving, 10 digs) and Kim Maesse (15 set assists, 23/23 serving, 2 aces, 11 digs).

“We were finally back on the playing court on Saturday after 2 weeks off due to quarantine,” reported Barnesville Head Coach Megan Askegaard. “The girls were excited to be playing a match again today and came out ready to today. We took a quick jump out in the first set with some aggressive serves from Sam who really made it hard for Hawley to side out. We took the lead in the first set early and never looked back. We played great defense and forced Hawley to make too many errors to recover from. Set 2 had a little different look as we found ourselves back on our heels and not attacking like we did in the first set. We had some blocking errors up on the net and Hawley was being very aggressive on the net. The Nuggets definitely battled back today after dropping the first set. They play great defense and their hitters were aggressive against our big front row. Set three was a great game back and forth for both teams playing great defense and playing aggressive volleyball on the net. It was a great match to watch with both teams not making errors, but just playing clean volleyball. As the sets moved on, I could see a little fatigue coming from a team who has just had to take 2 weeks off after starting practice in September. My girls battled hard today and came ready to play. We can definitely see some of the areas that we need a little more work in as we have only had 2 games this year. We are going to bounce back and be ready to go again on Monday in Pelican.”

No Hawley stats were reported.
