The Detroit Lakes Lakers scored 14 first quarter points and went on to record a 28-10 victory over the Perham Yellowjackets on Friday night at Ted Meinhover Field in Perham.

Christian Solberg hauled in a 22 yard scoring pass from Matthew Tobkin with 5:13 to play in the first quarter, capping an 83-yard, 8-play drive to the end zone.  The extra point kick by Evan Thomas gave the Lakers a 7-0 lead.  A 24 yard run by Joseph Heinlein and another Thomas PAT kick made it 14-0 with 2:47 left in the opening quarter.  Perham’s Finn Diggins was on the receiving end of a 49 yard touchdown pass from Josh Peterson with 1:42 remaining in the quarter and a Peterson two-point conversion run cut the Laker lead to 14-8.

After Perham pulled to within four points with a safety just six seconds into the second quarter, DL ended the half strong as Tobkin hooked up with Jacob Kalina on a 35 yard TD pass with 4:33 remaining in the second quarter.  Thomas made it 3-for-3 on extra-point kicks and the Lakers led 21-10 at the break

Tobkin connected with Kalina again with 8:11 left in the fourth quarter, this time from 20 yards, and Thomas booted the PAT to give DL the 28-10 win.

Detroit Lakes finished with 213 rushing yards and 90 yards passing for a total offense figure of 303 yards.  Solberg was the leading rush with 137 yards on 16 carries.  Tobkin completed 6-of-16 passes on the night and Kalina caught two balls for 55 yards.

Perham ran for 79 yards and threw for 153, putting their total offense number at 232.  Chas Melvin ran for 50 yards on 17 carries and Peterson was 14-for-30 throwing the football.  Levi Richter caught six passes for 33 yards and Andrew Smith had 4 catches for 39 yards.

Perham (1-3) will play at East Grand Forks on Friday.

The Lakers (4-0) have had their next game, scheduled against DGF, postponed due to COVID restrictions.
