The Pelican Rapids Vikings hosted the Frazee Hornets in a Heart O’ Lakes volleyball match on Thursday.  The Hornets swept the Vikings 25-20, 25-23, 25-19.

“The Vikings have been working through a new offense and lineup change after Senior Setter and Middle Hitter Greta Tollefson recently injured her ankle,” pointed out Head Coach Heidi Isaman.  The girls made some big improvements tonight from Tuesday’s game, especially with their block.  Middle blockers Anna Stephenson and Ellie Welch worked really hard at practice on Wednesday to make improvements in the blocking department and applied it to tonight’s game.  We also made a few gains with our serve receive tonight compared to earlier in the week.  We still did not pass the ball well enough, however, to be able to use all our hitters and keep their blockers moving.  When we were in system we hit pretty aggressively and used their block to our advantage but are hitting opportunities especially in set 3 were not enough to pull out the win.  Junior setter Sophia Paulson set well for us tonight.  She is really adjusting well switching from a 6-2 offense to a 5-1 offense.  Freshman Ellie Welch and Sophomore Kelsey Isaman hit the ball very well for us tonight and are putting more and more power on the ball.  We competed well all night but just could not stay aggressive enough to pull off the win in set 1 and 2.

Leading the way for the Vikings were Isaman (5 kills, 15 digs, 2 aces), Stephenson (5 kills, 5 digs, 2.5 blocks), Paulson (15 set assists, 2 aces), Sylvia Pesch (7 digs), Tori Stephenson (3 kills, 3 digs, 2 aces) and Welch (3 kills, 1 block).
