The West Central Area Knights hosted a tough Minnewaska Area team Thursday evening in a high school volleyball match which the Lakers won 3-1.

“We were excited to steal set three to force the Lakers into a fourth set,” said WCA Head Coach Missy Foslien. “We struggled keeping the ball out of the Lakers big blocks at times. Our first two sets we had difficulties with giving them 3-5 point runs, which makes it hard to make up those points. We turned things around in set three with some nice kills by Elizabeth Rustan and Halle Foslien. We also had steady and aggressive serving from Macy Grosz, Brooke Anderson and Mya Foslien. The whole team only missed three serves all night. Our scrappy defense also can take some credit, as Kaitlyn Hansen and Macy Grosz each had 14 digs on the night. We just need to keep getting better. Even though this was a loss for us, our team knows that they can stick with and push tougher teams, we've improved every game we've played in one way or another.”

Elizabeth Rustan (9), Halle Foslien (7) and Mya Foslien (4) led the Knights in kills and Grosz distributed 23 set assists.  Rustan added 4 blocks.  Serving leaders were Rustan (13/13), Grosz (17/17, 1 ace), Mya Foslien (14/14, 2 aces) and Brooke Anderson (11/11, 2 aces).

The Knights will face Brandon-Evansville and Hancock next week.
