The Battlers defeated the Ashby Arrows in a Little Eight Conference volleyball match on Thursday night 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 28-26).

The Battlers got off to a quick start in set one taking an 11-6 lead.  The Arrows quickly made adjustments and tied the set at 11.  “That was the story of the whole match,” commented Battle Lake Head Coach Jenny Roisum.  “Each team would go on a 3-4 point run and then the other team would fight back.  This was not the Battlers cleanest match of the year but they finished strong.”

The Battlers were led by Grace Van Erp with 13 kills and 4 blocks.  Hannah Cory added 7 kills and Ady Tysdal had 11 digs and was 18/19 serving.  Kate Christensen dished out 19 assists.  The Battlers are home on Monday against Wheaton.

Haleigh Brendmoen (8/9 serving, 1 ace, 9 kills, 14 digs), Catherine Koefod (7/8 serving, 1 ace, 12 assists, 12 digs), Madeline Thompson (13/13 serving, 4 aces, 5 digs), Celi Nelson (9/9 serving, 2 kills, 5 digs), Ryleigh Brendmoen (13/16 serving, 5 kills, 15 digs) and Tarryn Hill (6/6 serving, 3 digs) were the statistical leaders for Ashby.

“Serving was steady tonight at 92% but we had a lot of ups and downs throughout the three sets,” reported Ashby Head Coach Hayley Stevens. “Battle Lake has a strong attack and their defense got to us as their blocking shut us down time after time. We struggled getting over the hump of finding an open spot with a big block and that hurt us. Consistency is what we are working towards; one day at a time, just keep on pushing! Continuing to communicate and anticipating the ball's movement are big goals for next week and into the rest of the season. We have a week away with Hancock on Monday and heading to Brandon-Evansville on Thursday.”
