Underwood traveled to Rothsay for a Little Eight Conference volleyball match on Tuesday night with the Rockets sweeping the Tigers 25-19, 25-23, 25-15.

“Both teams showed some power at the net tonight,” commented Underwood Head Coach Breck Grove.  “Rothsay’s middle block gave us some trouble and our hitters were powerful when they needed to be.  Our attack was balanced again tonight and our overall team effort carried us through.”

Underwood was led by Josey Bugbee (8 kills), Moraes Bugbee (4 blocks, 5 kills), Brooke Hovland (9 kills, 6 digs), Kallyn Grove (16 set assists, 19/19 serving, 1 ace), Reese Richards (15 set assists, 9/10 serving, 1 ace, 3 blocks), Amber Frigaard (14/14 serving, 5 digs) and Brianna Evavold (12 digs).

“I thought we played well tonight despite the 3-0 defeat,” said Rothsay Head Coach John Reber. “We closed out Set 2 by missing four consecutive serves, so that was one that got away. On balance we had some really good things going on our side of the net - Kenadi Carlsrud (15 kills, 6 digs) and Madison Tillman (6 kills, 8 digs) had perhaps their best games of the season, and Lilly Wheelright (6 kills), Chase Balken (14 set assists, 6 digs, 2 aces) and Elli Meyer (13 set assists, 7 digs, 3 kills) were solid as well. We just didn't have quite enough firepower to come out with the win tonight.”

Underwood will play at Hancock on Thursday night, while Rothsay hosts Hillcrest Lutheran Academy.
