Cowboys Capitalize on 6 WCA/Ashby Turnovers in 40-8 Victory

Breckenridge capitalized on six turnovers by West Central Area/Ashby on Saturday afternoon as the Cowboys handed the Knights a 40-8 loss at the Moorhead High School.

Chris Nieto scored the first Breckenridge touchdown on a 3 yard run and Cooper Yaggie added the extra point kick to give the Cowboys a 7-0 advantage.  Yaggie then completed a 4 yard TD pass to Connor Twidwell and added a second PAT kick, lifting the Cowboys to a 14-0 lead after one quarter.

West Central Area/Ashby trapped Nieto in the end zone in the second quarter for a safety, cutting the lead to 14-2, however, Yaggie connected with Jacob Vizenor on a 67-yard scoring toss and added the extra point for a 21-2 lead.  The same duo hooked up on a 68-yard TD a few minutes later, increasing the halftime lead to 27-2 after a missed extra point try.

Nieto started the second half scoring with a 3 yard run and then scored on a 9 yard run later in the quarter. Yaggie’s extra point kick after the second TD by Nieto made the score 40-2.

The Knights put a touchdown on the board in the fourth quarter when Jaden Norby carried the ball into the end zone from 11 yards out.

Yaggie was 8-for-13 throwing the football for 191 yards and 3 touchdowns.  He also ran the ball for 35 yards on 7 attempts.  Nieto led the ground attack with 87 yards on 14 carries.  Vizenor caught 3 passes for 144 yards and Twidwell was on the receiving end of 3 passes for 32 yards.  The Cowboys had a total of 365 yards (174 rushing, 191 passing).  Defensively, Jared Aamold recorded a sack.  Yaggie, Twidwell, Sebastian Anderson and Dylan Bernotas each had an interception in the game. 

Anthony Sykora (15 carries, 68 yards) and Jaden Norby (10 carries, 48 yards) led the rushing attack for the Knights who finished with 129 rushing yards and 131 total yards.

Breckenridge (3-0) will host Hawley (2-1) on Friday night.  The 3-1 Knights will be home to unbeaten Barnesville (3-0).
