Patriots Hold Off Perham for 21-14 Win

Finn Diggins tied his own record for passes caught in a game with 12 on Friday night, however, the Perham Yellowjackets lost their battle with the Patriots in Pequot Lakes, 21-14.  Diggins had 106 yards on his 12 receptions.

 

The Patriots scored seven points in each of the first three quarters with Alex Morgan finding the end zone on the receiving end of an 11 yard pass from Bode Magnuson with just 2:49 left in the opening quarter, completing a 13-play, 80-yard scoring drive.  Vinny Sposito added the PAT kick.
Magnuson scored touchdown number two with 4:06 remaining in the second quarter when he broke loose for a 71-yard TD run.  Sposito made it a 14-0 game by tacking on the extra point kick.

In the third quarter, Pequot Lakes scored with 10:04 on the clock when Magnuson connected with Morgan again, this time from 20 yards out.  Sposito made it 3-for-3 on PAT kicks and the Patriots were ahead 21-0 as the teams headed to the fourth quarter.

Perham came alive with a 17 yard pass from Josh Peterson to Levi Richter and a two-point conversion pass by the same combination of players with 11:25 remaining in the game, making it a 21-8 score.  Peterson pulled the Yellowjackets to within 7 points with a one yard run with just 3:07 to go, but the extra point pass failed and it was 21-14.  Perham went 74 yards in 14 plays on the drive.  Pequot Lakes was able to run out the rest of the clock without yielding possession of the football.

The Patriots ran for 225 yards and had 111 yards passing for 336 total yards.  Magnuson led them with 167 rushing yards on 16 carries and completed 10-of-24 passes for 11 yards.  Morgan was the top receiver with 50 yards on 5 catches.  Defensively, Riley Peters, Grant Loge, Cole Trottier and Logan Hill each recorded a sack. Ryan Monahan had a pair of interceptions and Carter Sjoblad also picked off a pass, while Riggs Magnuson recovered a fumble.

Perham finished with 312 total yards, with 102 coming on the ground and 210 through the air.  Peterson led them with 87 rushing yards on 26 carries.  He also completed 22-of-34 passes, but was sacked four times.  Chas Melvin had 6 catches for 55 yards.  Defensively, Diggins and Jacob Daniels each recorded a sack, while Caleb Lung and Gage Germolus each recovered a fumble.  Brian Ramos (7 solo tackles), Gordon Martinez (4 solo tackles, 3 assisted tackles) and Connor Kostynick (6 solo tackles) were the leading tacklers.

Perham (1-2) will host Detroit Lakes (3-0) at 7:00pm Friday night, and Pequot Lakes (2-1) will travel to Fergus Falls (1-2) for a 6:00pm start on Friday.
