Shut Down Defense Carries OTC Past Crookston

The Ottertail Central defense shut down the Crookston offense on Friday night, holding the Pirates to just 90 yards on 42 plays and blanking the home team 32-0.  OTC compiled 324 yards of total offense, with 250 rushing yards and 74 passing yards on 60 offensive snaps.

Tanner Arndt passed for 74 yards and a pair of touchdowns, completing 8-of-11 passes, and ran for 70 yards on 9 carries, while Brady VanErp caught 6 passes for 66 yards and a pair of TD’s.  VanErp also had a 54 yard interception return for a third touchdown.

Arndt and VanErp connected on a 23 yard touchdown pass in the first quarter as the Bulldogs took a 6-0 lead.  That score stood up until halftime.

In the second half, Arndt scored on a 33 yard run, followed by a 3 yard TD run by Drew Durbin and a two-point conversion run by Tyson Misegades, giving OTC a 20-0 lead.  Those two rushing touchdowns were followed by the interception by VanErp and the Bulldogs led 26-0 after three quarters of play.

In the fourth quarter, VanErp hauled in a 25 yard pass from Arndt to put the final score at 32-0.

Durbin ran for 63 yards on 14 carries, Mason Hammer had 58 yards on 10 attempts and Calvin Stueve finished with 41 yards on 5 carries.  Defensively, Drubin, Stueve, Wyatt Severson and Kayne Cameron each recovered a fumble as OTC forced five turnovers in the game.

The Bulldogs (2-2) will now face Staples-Motley on Thursday at 7:00pm in Alexandria.  The game was originally scheduled to be played in Staples on Friday night.
