Brandon/Evansville defeated Rothsay 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-11) in a Little Eight Conference volleyball match on Tuesday night in Rothsay.

“Tonight was our home opener, and it was special to have fans in the building again,” stated Rothsay Head Coach John Reber. “Our team goal tonight was to improve on our performance at CGB last Thursday. For the most part I think we accomplished that, even though the scoreboard displayed a similar result. Brandon-Evansville is a talented and well-coached team, and we were able to compete point-for-point in stretches, but they were able to pull away in each set. We have shown we can play solid volleyball, but we still need to find that next gear to be competitive with the top teams.”

Brandon-Evansville Head Coach Kelly Olson said, “Tonight we went against a team that was superior in hustle, in never giving up, and wanting to play. Our effort this evening was lackluster to say the least. We did win 3-0, but only because we caught them standing up. The Rothsay coach talked about trying to string things together... we didn’t do that. We have talked for weeks about communication and about taking advantage of opportunities presented to us.  Tonight we didn’t do those things.  We didn’t cover well, serve receive well, or read well on defense.  Tonight Rothsay showed us what true heart can do.  That heart kept them in the match.  We had chances throughout the night on which we could have capitalized, but we did not do that.  Missed serves and passing free balls haunted us.  Setting errors plagued our flow.  If this team is going to push into the postseason they need to decide now is the time to improve.  With tough matches coming up these players need to step forward and decide now is the time to improve. These players need to start pushing toward their goals, otherwise we will lose focus and fizzle out. We had many different lineups out there, trying to find a spark.  At times we saw that, but not enough. Morgan Bitzan had quality touches tonight and we saw Kaytlyn Pattrin end the match with her first kill.  We love to see those things happen, but the team as a whole needs to focus and be responsible in their play.  Hats off to Rothsay tonight, they pushed us.

Statistical leaders for the Chargers were Bailey Schaefer (13 kills, 3 aces), Mikenna Pattrin (4 kills, 2 blocks, 3 digs), Gretchen Bredberg (16/16 serving, 4 aces), Taylor Yeats (4 digs, 11/12 serving, 1 ace), Korrie Randt (13/14 serving)  and Olivia Otto (4 digs, 11/11 serving, 1 ace).
