The Pelican Rapids Vikings moved with ease thru the first round of the playoffs Monday afternoon, beating the Hillcrest Lutheran Academy Comets 10-1.

The Vikings came in as the top ranked team in the Section and needed only 5 minutes before Jesus Moreno found Khadar Ibrahim to open the scoring.  Exactly a minute later, Daniel Urbano hit a high cross that Moreno headed into the net to make it 2-0.

At the nineteen-minute mark, Khadar Aden was able to connect with Abdi Isse, whose shot deflected off a Comet player into the net.  Four minutes later, Moreno again found Ibrahim to make it 4-0.  With eight minutes remaining in the first half, Jesus Moreno connected on a corner kick with Abdi Isse who headed the ball into the net.  Five minutes later, Isse connected with a sprinting Ibrahim who out dribbled everyone, including the goalkeeper to make the score 6-0 and a minute later, Abdi Isse's shot ricocheted off the cross bar where Hamsa Ishowa banged in the seventh goal of the half.

The Vikings played a reserve squad of players the entire second half and Jaime Zavala Franco scored on an assist from Zaki IsseMohamed Ahmed was credited for a deflected goal and Abdul Ahmed was given an assist and Ahmed put back another with just 3 minutes to play to push the final score out to 10-1.  Hillcrest's lone goal came off a penalty late in the second half.

The Vikings move to 8-2 on the season and now will host Alexandria on Thursday night.  Alexandria, who eliminated the Vikings from the post-season last year, defeated Detroit Lakes 4-0 to advance in Section play.  In other Section action, East Grand Forks narrowly escaped with a 2-1 victory against Crookston and Bemidji defeated Fergus Falls 1-0.
